Burio Bark Bag / Red / Poreleki Jerro This bag is made from the bark of the "Burio" tree also known as "Porelen" in Maleku. The process involves cutting the bark from the tree. (Over time, the bark will re-grow.) The bark is soaked in water for four days at which an inner fiber called "Kirrilenh" can be removed from the bark. The fiber is then squeezed, flattened, and dried in the sun for two to three days. Two individual strands are formed and then twisted together to form a single thread. The entire body of the bag is formed by looping this single thread by hand. No tools of any kind are used. Because every piece of art is made to order, we do not stock inventory. Please send an e-mail describing which pieces you would like, and they will be custom made and shipped directly to you.
