BOW / ARCO / KIJILHA ARROWS / FLECHAS / KARU
QUIVER / CARCAJ / ILAKAJ
The quiver is carved from balsa wood and painted in acrylics. The arrow is constructed in two parts. The body of the arrow is made from the part of the palm tree that supports the palm branches. The point of the arrow is made from the pejibeye (juma kora in Maleku) tree as is the bow. The strings are made from the bark of the "Burio" tree also known as "Porelen" in Maleku. The process involves cutting the bark from the tree. (Over time, the bark will re-grow.) The bark is soaked in water for four days at which time an inner fiber called "Kirrilenh" can be removed from the bark. The fiber is then squeezed, flattened, and dried in the sun for two to three days. Two individual strands are formed and then twisted together to form a single thread. Because every piece of art is made to order, we do not stock inventory. Please send an e-mail describing which pieces you would like, and they will be custom made and shipped directly to you.
