Skin of the Iguana / Piel de Iguana / Erra Lenh While the Malekus value the iguana as food and as material for artistry, they are very careful so as to allow the population to thrive. Burio Bark Carry String / Red / Poreleki Jerro This string is made from the bark of the "Burio" tree also known as "Porelen" in Maleku. The process involves cutting the bark from the tree. (Over time, the bark will re-grow.) The bark is soaked in water for four days at which an inner fiber called "Kirrilenh" can be removed from the bark. The fiber is then squeezed, flattened, and dried in the sun for two to three days. Two individual strands are formed and then twisted together to form a single thread. No tools of any kind are used.
