The Drum / El Tambor (in Spanish) / Tali (in Maleku)

Long ago, the drum was used as a method of communication from one location to another between members of the tribe.  It is carved in relief from balsa wood and painted with acrylics.  The top of the drum is made from genuine iguana skin.

Skin of the Iguana / Piel de Iguana / Erra Lenh

While the Malekus value the iguana as food and as material for artistry, they are very careful so as to allow the population to thrive.

As is the case with all of the artwork shown on this web site, no tools are used other than a knife for carving designs and shapes.
