Jicara / Pupa These products are made from the jicara fruit. When the fruit has developed over a three-month period, it is harvested and carved before the shell becomes too hard. The fruit is picked, cut in half or cored, as in the case of making jugs, and emptied of seeds and pulp. The drawings are painted in durable acrylic. The pupa can be used as a cup or a bowl, and the designs serve as reminders of the natural surroundings of the Maleku reservation.
Each photo is a link to a larger photograph with descriptions of the artistic details of each piece. Because every piece of art shown on this web site is made to order, we do not stock inventory. Please send an e-mail describing which pieces you would like, and they will be custom made and shipped directly to you.
