                         WARRIOR OF THE FOREST
Guerrero de la Selva / Kora Putu Iri Jerrevesufa
                 (Spanish)                              (Maleku)

                Warrior Mask #18

As is true with all the WARRIOR masks, the warrior himself represents Man's need to protect Nature.  His anger reflects his fear that Nature will be destroyed by greed and corruption.

Red Macaw / Lapa Roja / Ola

The feathers of this species are collected during molting season and used for sacred Maleku ceremonies.  The nests are located at the tops of the tallest trees, thereby making the collection process very dangerous.  This is a sacred bird which is considered to be "untouchable".

Toucan / Tucán / Píli

The toucan represents the tranquilizing effect of Woman over the aggressive, protectiveness of Man.  When the birds are looking downward, it indicates a bad situation.
